Response to John Armstrong Community Governance Review 30th June 2015

St Martha Parish Council

30th June 2015 Mr John Armstrong Democratic Services Manager Guildford Borough Council Millmead House Guildford GU2 4BB

Dear John Armstrong

Community Governance Review – Chilworth

The newly formed Parish Council has discussed at length the issues involved in the Chilworth boundary review, in light of the removal of consideration of Option 2.

We understand that you would like the Parish Councils’ own preference as to option 1 or option 3.

We have listened carefully to the views of our parishioners and it is fair to say that some of the diversity of views expressed among the wider community is also evident among the members of the Parish Council.

There is though, a recognition that the process now underway needs to continue and, as a Parish Council we support this and remain open to option 1 and the desire to recognise the modern boundary of Chilworth village.

As to a name of the possible new village council, we would like to see the retention of “St Martha” in the title.

Additionally we feel that the work load for the possible new council will require nine Councillors to allow for sub-committees.

In our deliberations, we have taken into account the identities and interests within the Parish Council area and the impact on community cohesions along with the importance of maintaining good relationships with neighbouring Parish Councils.

Yours sincerely

Anne Tait Parish Clerk
