Love Outdoor Play Week

St Martha Parish Council

Love Outdoor Play Week (20 - 24 March 2017) celebrates the play opportunities on offer throughout Guildford’s fantastic green spaces. The week provides children from across the borough with a chance to take part in fun, outdoor-based activities.

Cllr Iseult Roche, Lead Councillor for Community, Health and Sport says: “You cannot underestimate how important play is for children. It is an essential part of physical and mental development, overall wellbeing and good social skills. Love Outdoor Play Week is a great way for local children to try the fantastic range of activities Guildford has to offer. It’s great to see play areas shifting to more outdoor, natural play, for example climbing trees and being in fresh air - and this has been really welcomed by children and parents. Our communities have great play spaces that are attractive, safe, challenging and accessible for children and young people of all ages and abilities. Love Outdoor Play Week will encourage even more young people to benefit.”

Run by the Playrangers team, activities will include vibrant and energetic ‘giant games’, such as human table football, toasting giant marshmallows on a fire, and ‘Land of the Giants’, which uses stop frame animation to create a city of monsters and giants.

Love Outdoor Play Week takes place from 20 - 24 March 2017. The Playrangers team will be out every afternoon after school, between 3.30pm and 5.30pm with games sessions held in Pirbright, Ash, Westborough, Bellfields and Chilworth.

Playrangers sessions also run every weekday during term-time, and are a great way for children and young people to get outside, be active and make new friends. Sessions are aimed at 8 to 12 year olds, however under 8s are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
