Guildford in Bloom 2017 Competition

St Martha Parish Council

As our gardens and parks show signs of springing back into life Guildford Borough Council is delighted to announce that this year’s Guildford in Bloom competition is now open to enter.

Cllr Paul Spooner, Chairman of Guildford in Bloom, commented

“Last year saw a large increase in the number of residents entering this free competition and each year the diversity, quality and beauty of the entries gets better. Whatever the size of your garden, location or gardening style there is a category for you to enter. Our ever popular schools competition is a great way for children to learn some basic gardening skills and to help them better appreciate the natural environment.”

The competition has nine free to enter categories to choose from:

  1. Best Front Garden

  2. Best Allotment & Vegetable/Kitchen Garden

  3. Best Garden for Wildlife

  4. Best Pub in Bloom

  5. Best Container Garden

  6. Best Neighbourhood Project

  7. Best School in Bloom

  8. Best Public Building in Bloom (New category for 2017)

  9. The Dorothy Walden Award, awarded to the best first time entry in any category

Best School in Bloom

This year the theme of the schools category is ‘The seaside’. The judges will be looking for imaginatively themed gardens or novel containers that best represent the seaside. Children’s involvement with the design, planting, upkeep and meeting the theme of the competition will score high marks.

Please note that dates for the school competition are different to the main competition. The closing date for entries is 26 May with judging taking place between 5-16 June. The results of the schools competition will be announced on 21 June.
