Meeting - London Road Active Travel Scheme - Thursday 5th Jan

St Martha Parish Council

Message from Surrey County Council re a public consultation on Thursday 5th January.

PUBLIC MEETING: SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL PROPOSALS FOR LONDON ROAD ACTIVE TRAVEL SCHEME on THURSDAY 5 JANUARY, 18.30 – 20.30 at RAYNHAM HALL, GEORGE ABBOT SCHOOL, WOODRUFF AVENUE

On behalf of the London Road Action Group I would like to invite you to this public meeting. Leader of Surrey County Council, Cllr Tim Oliver, and the SCC Executive Director for Environment, Transport and Infrastructure, Ms. Katie Stewart, will answer questions on the proposals for the scheme. The Rt Hon Anne Milton will chair the event.

The current proposals are to completely close (day and night) the northbound carriageway of the A3100 London Road between Boxgrove roundabout and the Aldi roundabout at New Inn Lane for 5 months to construct segregated cycle lanes in both directions, as well as improved footways and crossings.

Construction of the scheme was due to start on January 9th 2023 but has been postponed as a result of concerns raised by local residents, businesses and schools. The scheme has not been cancelled. Surrey County Council say that the scheme has been postponed, β€œto allow more detailed discussion with the local community, to help ensure the benefits of the scheme are widely understood and delivered.”

This is your opportunity to make your views known to the Surrey County Council decision-makers and to have your questions answered – on how the scheme is implemented and on the scheme itself.
